Ambassador Garza to Address "Hemispheria 2005" Summit
"As we consolidate our modern partnership with Mexico, we are seeking new initiatives to promote the security and prosperity of all of North America," said Ambassador Garza. "Security, prosperity, and competitiveness are key components of our efforts to build on the remarkable success of NAFTA by expanding our relationship with each of our North American partners."
The Hemispheria 2005 summit in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon will take place May 12 to 13th. Government leaders, entrepreneurs, and state and municipal officials from the United States, Mexico and Canada will meet to analyze advancements and future actions related to NAFTA. Discussions will focus on regional and border issues- particularly strategic agreements to enhance commercial relationships and competitiveness-and participants will examine best practices in the areas of municipal finance, energy and border security.
"I'm delighted to return to the dynamic city of Monterrey and that our Secretary of Commerce Carlos M. Gutierrez, who is well-known to many of you in Monterrey, will be there as well," said Ambassador Garza on the eve of the summit.
Ambassador Garza's Friday speech will focus on security, competitiveness and the convergence of American, Mexican and Canadian interests within the context of the Security and Prosperity Partnership announced recently by Presidents Bush and Fox.
