A Positive Agenda for North America:
Promoting Civil Society and Philanthropy
Monterrey, NL October 7, 2008 --- In an effort to increase ties between civil society in Mexico and in the United States, the U.S. Consulate General in Monterrey in coordination with the National Council for Community and Education Partnerships (NCCEP) and the state government of Nuevo Leon, is pleased to invite media representatives to the “International Conference on Philanthropy and the Non-Profit Sector: Developing Strategic Social Alliances” taking place October 15-17 at the President Inter-Continental Hotel Monterrey.
This event, an example of the U.S.-Mexico “positive agenda” of forming broad-based partnerships to increase prosperity and citizens’ participation, is aimed at promoting progress in the areas of education, health, economic development and environment.
The conference and workshops intend to:
- Discuss how government, business and civil society can best collaborate
- Share best practices of philanthropy and the non-profit sector
- Discuss how philanthropy benefits business
- Highlight examples of successful cooperation among government, business and civil society in education, health, economic development, and environment
The inauguration will be held on Wednesday October 15 at 11:00am in the President Intercontinental Hotel. It will be hosted by Nuevo Leon governor Natividad Gonzalez, and the keynote speaker will be Ambassador Craig Kelly, Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs of the U.S. Department of State.
