Seminar on the Hague Convention on Child Abduction

Monterrey, NL, September 25, 2009 --- Nuevo Leon’s Justice of the State Courts, the State System for the Integral Development of the Family (DIF) and the U.S. Consulate General in Monterrey will hold an informational seminar on September 28 and 29 on the Hague Convention of 1980 on the Civil Aspects of International Parental Child Abduction, in Monterrey.

The U.S. Department of State is aware of thousands of international parental child abductions, one third of which involve the United States and Mexico.  The Hague Convention is designed to prevent and remedy international parental abduction or wrongful retention of children by facilitating the return of children to their place of habitual residence, and ensuring the visiting rights of non-custodial parents.

During the seminar, judges, state officials, officials of the Central Authority and other experts will consider ways to better protect children in Mexico and the United States, and how to more effectively apply this important international convention.
